Love the idea of a documentary family session, but don’t know who/what/when/where to plan or include in your session?

First, it’s my job to figure that out. After you’ve reached out to me, please sit back and relax. If we’re doing your session at home, you don’t even have to worry about leaving your house before I see you. I love when clients already know what they want to do for their session, but I also equally love being able to use what they tell me about their family to give them ideas for activities that are both meaningful and that will photograph well.

Second, why not plan a session around one of those semi-special days? Someone’s birthday, retirement, small family gathering, your favorite federal holiday, an anniversary. Days when gifts might be involved, an extra delicious meal or dessert, more of your favorite people, something to celebrate. Don’t let weddings and births get all the attention. Your other important days are allowed to be (and dare I say deserve to be) photographed for your future enjoyment too.

Go ahead and steal this family’s idea to have a surprise session for Dad’s next b-day. Plan as much or as little as you want, I’ll be there to make sure no one forgets the day.
